Continuing our culinary tour of Norwegian Cruise Lines Fine Dining
Ready for a culinary journey that will make your taste buds sing? If you’re sailing with Norwegian Cruise Line, you’re in for a treat, because we’re about to talk about a true gem on the high seas: Cagney’s Steakhouse!
Now, I know what you might be thinking: “A steakhouse is a steakhouse” Is it really that good?” My friends, let me tell you, Cagney’s isn’t just good; it’s an experience. It’s that special-occasion, celebratory, “I-deserve-this” kind of dining that will leave you feeling pampered and utterly satisfied. This is the one specialty restaurant that we will do multiple times on a cruise, and we love it every time.
What Makes Cagney’s So Special?
Cagney’s is Norwegian’s signature American-style steakhouse, and it exudes classic elegance without feeling stuffy. Picture dim lighting, plush seating, and a sophisticated ambiance that’s perfect for a romantic dinner or a celebratory meal with friends. It’s one of Norwegian’s most popular specialty restaurants, and for good reason!
The service at Cagney’s is impeccable. The staff are attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely seem to enjoy making your dining experience exceptional. From the moment you’re seated to the final, lingering bite of dessert, you’ll feel like a VIP.

The Main Event: Beyond Just Steak!
While “Steakhouse” is in the name, Cagney’s menu offers so much more than just fantastic cuts of beef (though they certainly excel at those!). Let’s break down some of the deliciousness you can expect:
- Appetizers: Start your meal with something truly delightful. Think perfectly seared scallops, a classic shrimp cocktail, or their famous, decadent Cagney’s Shrimp – jumbo shrimp wrapped in bacon. Don’t forget the crisp wedge salad or the rich French Onion Soup.
- The Steaks: Ah, the stars of the show! You’ll find a selection of premium, aged cuts cooked to your exact preference. Whether you’re a fan of the tender Filet Mignon, the richly marbled Ribeye, or a hearty New York Strip, you’re in for a treat. They even offer a massive 20 oz. Porterhouse if you’re feeling adventurous (or sharing!).
- Other Entrees: Not a steak lover? No problem! Cagney’s also offers delicious options like grilled salmon, roasted chicken, and sometimes even lobster tails.
- Sides (Oh, the Sides!): This is where things get seriously good. The sides are served family-style, perfect for sharing. My personal favorites include the Truffle French Fries (a must-try!), the creamed spinach, and the perfectly baked potatoes.
The Grand Finale: Desserts That Dreams Are Made Of!
Now, hold on tight, because if you thought the appetizers and main courses were good, you haven’t lived until you’ve experienced the desserts at Cagney’s. This isn’t just an afterthought; it’s a grand finale that will send you off to dreamland with a happy sigh.
If you have a sweet tooth (and honestly, who doesn’t on vacation?), this is where you indulge!
- Raspberry Crème Brûlée: This is a fan favorite for a reason. Imagine a creamy and delicious dessert featuring tart raspberry sauce, a rich creamy vanilla custard and a crunchy caramelized sugar top that makes a perfect end to any meal.
- Seven Layer Chocolate Cake: Prepare yourself, chocolate lovers! This isn’t just a cake; it’s a towering masterpiece. Picture seven glorious layers of rich, moist chocolate cake, interspersed with luscious, creamy chocolate frosting. It’s intensely chocolatey, wonderfully decadent, and undeniably impressive. Each forkful is a pure chocolate dream. It’s a dessert you’ll want to photograph before you devour it!
- “OMG” Caramel-Butterscotch Cheesecake: Rich, creamy, and packed with deliciousness . This is the dessert that challenges my favorite seven layer chocolate cake for the number one spot. It is very much named appropriately.
- Apple Pie: A classic. Served with whipped cream or Vanilla Ice Cream. Simple and delicious.
My biggest tip for dessert at Cagney’s? Order more than one! Seriously, Your Dinner (whether using a More At Sea dining credit or paying the cover charge) include 3 Appetizers, one main course and up to 3 desserts. You won’t regret it. The portions are generous, but they are so unbelievably good, you’ll want to try them all.

Tips for Your Cagney’s Experience:
- Reservations are a MUST: Cagney’s is incredibly popular, and tables fill up fast. Book your reservation as soon as you can, either online pre-cruise or immediately upon boarding the ship.
- It’s a Potential Upcharge, and It’s Worth It: As a specialty restaurant, there is an additional charge for dining at Cagney’s. If you took advantage of the More At Sea (MAS) promotion, you have one or more specialty dining credits that can be used. If you did not do the MAS or have already used them, there is a $60.00 per person cover charge (plus 20% gratuity) However, for the quality of food, the service, and the overall experience, it’s widely considered one of the best values on the ship.
- Dress the Part: While not formal, “smart casual” is generally the vibe. Think nice slacks or dresses, collared shirts. It adds to the special occasion feel!
- Savor Every Bite: Don’t rush! This is an experience to be enjoyed. Take your time, enjoy the conversation, and truly savor the delicious food.
Dining at Cagney’s Steakhouse on Norwegian Cruise Line is more than just a meal; it’s a memorable part of your vacation that you’ll be raving about long after you’ve disembarked. So go ahead, treat yourself to that perfectly cooked steak, those decadent sides, and those unforgettable desserts, especially that magnificent Seven Layer Chocolate Cake. You’re on vacation, after all!
Travel often and travel well my friends.
